There are six Federal Training Centres (FTCs) located in each of the six geo-political zones of the country: FTC Lagos (South West), FTC Enugu (South East), FTC Calabar (South South), FTC Ilorin (North Central), FTC Kaduna (North West) and FTC Maiduguri (North East).

The Federal Training Centre, Enugu was established in 1977 (the fourth to be established in the Federation). The Centre operated from its temporary site at Chime Avenue, New Haven Enugu from 1977 until November 2004 when it moved to its permanent site at Abakaliki Road, Emene, Enugu.
